Ancient Egypt Unit Study & Ra the Mighty Novel Study
Ancient Egypt is a fun and mysterious time in history and kids will love learning about it! In this Ancient Egypt unit study we’ve paired it with a fiction novel study set in the same time…Ra the Mighty!

I did this unit study with a kindergartner and a 2nd grader but it’s appropriate for about K-4th grade. They really enjoyed it and displayed some of their completed activities at a learning fair.

In this unit study you’ll cover the following topics:
- Intro to Ancient Egypt (where to find it)
- Scarab Beetles
- Cats in Ancient Egypt
- Pharaohs/Pyramids
- Hieroglyphs
- Mummies
How long is the unit study?
This Unit Study will take approximately 6 weeks. It may take longer if you decide to do deeper dives on any topics.
The schedule I’ve included in the set has items being done 3 days a week, because that’s how often we do unit study work.

What sort of activities are included?
Each week will include books to read, videos to watch for some weeks, and activities to complete.
The set does include links to websites to read information for some weeks.
I’ve also included links to Readworks articles for most weeks. Readworks is a great site that includes mostly non-fiction passages at various reading levels. These are for kids to read, they often come with comprehension questions as well. (This website is a non-profit so everything is free.)
Here is an example of one weeks resource list.

The Books
There are many books used throughout this unit study. Each week will have the books I used listed.
Other than Ra the Mighty, which is used for the novel study, you can change books out depending on what’s available at your library. Just find ones on the same topics and pre-screen them to make sure they are a good resource.
You can also purchase them all here if you prefer.

Can I do it with kids of different ages
I love unit studies because it’s something I can do with both of my kids together!
I generally let my younger child give everything a try. If she’s not getting it then we just move on for her.
I also frequently work as her scribe so she can think through the activity even if it’s beyond her writing ability. Other times, we will complete things as a group and I do the writing for all of us.
Can I do just the novel study or just the unit study?
We love pairing a unit study with a related novel study, but you can, of course, do only the novel study or only the unit study.
I will have them available to purchase individually in the future.
