A fun game can be a great way to work on math skills all during the Thanksgiving season.
You can keep this game simple and just match the feathers or attach the feathers to clothespins and turn this into a clip card activity.
Supplies
- Printable turkeys and feathers
- scissors
- Optional: clothespins.
Set it up
1 – Print out the game (download towards end of post). Cut out each turkey and all the feathers. There are ten turkeys and six different colors of feathers.
If you want the pieces to last longer you may consider laminating them.
My favorite for at home use is this one that I purchased on Amazon. If you don’t laminate cardstock will work better than plain paper which tends to curl a bit.
How to Play
There are several different ways to play this turkey math game.
1 – You can set out one turkey and many feathers including all 6 that match your turkey. Have the child find the correct feathers.
2 – Set out two turkeys and only the feathers matching those 2 numbers. Have kids match the feathers to the correct turkey.
3 – If you want add an extra fine motor skill challenge you can turn the turkeys into clip cards. Simply attach each feather to a clothespin and have kids clip them onto the correct turkey.
If you’re going to play this way you’ll want to print the turkeys on something sturdy like card stock.
4 – Make it physical! To get kids up and moving put the feathers on one end of the room and lay out the turkeys on the other side of the room on a table, or tape each one to a basket or paper bag.
Have kids run across the room, grab a feather, then run back and place it with the correct turkey.
Who can match all their the fastest?! There are several different colors of feathers so you could have up to 6 kids play at once if you have the space.
5 – Or come up with your own way to play based on the skills your kid(s) need to work on.
If you have a fun way to play please share it in the comments for others to learn from!
