Ten More, Ten Less {Free Math Learning Worksheets}

Learning to find 10 more and 10 less than a given number is an important early math skill that helps kids build number sense and understand place value.

These concepts are especially helpful for students in 1st and 2nd grade, as they begin to notice patterns in our base-ten number system.

When kids can confidently identify 10 more or 10 less, they’re showing that they understand how numbers change when you move up or down a row on the hundreds chart.

This foundation helps them later with addition, subtraction, and mental math strategies.

I made these worksheets for my own daughter, who was struggling a bit with this concept. She needed some extra examples aside from the Math Mammoth curriculum we usually use for math.

What’s Included in the Worksheets

This set has 6 worksheets in all. It includes using place value thinking and a hundreds chart so students practice the concept of 10 more and 10 less in different ways.

The first 3 focus on adding or subtracting 10 by thinking about place value.

The second 3 focus on using the hundreds chart to find 10 more or 10 less than a given number.

If you prefer, you can use the hundreds chart set first. For my daughter, place value was something she was more comfortable using than a hundreds chart, so it made sense for us to look at it by place value first.

In addition to the worksheets, we also used these videos to help introduce the concepts as well.

These were a great way to introduce the concepts before using the worksheets. My daughter especially liked the first one, since it’s a song.
