This printable geography activity came to be because of my own kids. I would mention a place a relative lived and they’d ask if that was a country or other times if it was a state. Mind you, these were places we had talked about numerous times…

So I created this flowchart to help them to visualize the information. Now we can go through the flowchart for where different relatives live.

Why Use a Geography Flowchart?

Sometimes geography can feel overwhelming with all the places, terms, and facts to remember.

A flowchart helps break information into smaller parts so children can clearly see how ideas connect together.

This type of geography activity worksheet works great for homeschool units, classroom centers, or independent practice. Kids can follow arrows, sort information, and build connections while learning.

How to use the geography printable

There are 4 pages included in the printable PDF (download below). The first is simply an example you can use for teaching purposes.

Then, there are 3 actual worksheets to choose from. If you’re in the United States there is one version that only asks kids to fill in their state and city. You can also choose the one that has them fill in the continent and country as well.

For those outside the USA, I did my best to create a version that would work for you as well. It leaves most of the areas blank. Some countries don’t use states, provinces, regions, etc so you may have to cross out that section.

You can even laminate the worksheet or use a plastic sleeve if you want to re-use the flowchart for various places.

How to fill in the boxes?

How should they fill in the boxes? That’s up to you! Kids can choose to simply write in the names that go in each box.

They can also choose to copy the outline of the country, state, etc into the boxes and write the name underneath, or paste in a cut-out outline for the item that goes in the box.

The point is to learn however it works best for them.
