Rainbow Animal Craft {Printable Craft Template}
Two things kids love are rainbows and animals. They’ll love these fun rainbow animal crafts. They have a rainbow body and the head and tail of various different animals.
This craft is geared towards preschool and kindergarten age kids. Younger kids could make one but they likely don’t have the coloring skills to make it actually look like an animal.

This set of printable animal templates includes 18 different animals to choose from. You can choose from the following: rabbit, lion, giraffe, monkey, fox, elephant, mouse, racoon, bear, dog, cow, deer, zebra, rhino, tiger, turtle, horse, or sheep.
Supplies
- Printable rainbow animal template of your choice
- Glue stick
- Crayons, markers, etc.
Directions
1 – Print out your choice of animal(s). There are 18 different animals to choose from!
I chose a cow and my preschooler chose to do a lion so that’s what you’ll see in the example pictures. But be sure to check out all the other cute animals you can make.
2 – Color each piece of your animal, the head, rainbow body, and tail.
3 – Cut out the 3 pieces for your animal.
4 – Using glue, attach the head and tail to the rainbow body.
Learning Opportunities
Animals
This is a fun way to learn about animals! My kids loved looking up pictures of the real animals so they could decide how they should color their own.
You can also use it to talk about different characteristics of that animal if your child is interested.

Fine Motor Skills
There can be two opportunities for working on fine motor skills depending on where you child’s skills are.
The first opportunity is with the coloring. Working on coloring within the lines takes focus and fine motor skills.
They can also work on their fine motor skills and scissor skills by cutting out the pieces. My preschooler was able to cut the pieces apart and then I went behind her and touched up the edges.
Printable animal craft templates
Each rainbow animal template prints on an 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper. There are a lot of animals so I suggest looking through and only printing the animals you want to make to save paper.
They work just fine printed on regular paper. If you want to try to make them stand up when you are done building them you will need to print them on something heavier like cardstock.
