Apparently there is some debate over whether it’s gross to use toilet paper rolls for crafts. Personally I love the fact that you get to upcycle something into a cute craft.
If you’re anti toilet paper tubes you can also use a paper towel roll and cut it in half. They also sell cardboard tubes (link in the supplies list) if you want to go that route.
Want your angel to be all white? You can purchase white cardboard tubes or paint your toilet paper rolls white before you make the craft.
How to make cardboard tube angels
1 – Cut out the angel wing template leaving the bridge piece between the two wings intact.
2 – If you didn’t print it directly onto cardstock you’ll need to glue it onto the cardstock or draw around the template and cut out your white cardstock wings.
3 – Use your finger or a popsicle stick to spread glue over one wing in a thin layer. Try to leave the center area free of glue and decor.
4 – Stick feathers or fake craft snow all over the wing to cover it. I suggest laying the wings in a box or plastic bin to contain the extra mess.
Let the kids feel the different textures of what they’re putting on the wings.
If you’re using feathers you will probably need to cut them into smaller pieces.
Want a less mess option? Use gold or white glittery cardstock and skip gluing anything onto the wings.
5 – Repeat for the second wing
6 – Use tape to attach the wings to the center of the toilet paper roll. (You can use glue but then they will need to be stationary to dry and it will take longer to complete.)
7 – Create a halo out of a gold pipe cleaner. Wrap the remaining ends to form a stem.
8 – Tape the stem into place along the center of the wings. Leave enough height so the halo hovers above the head of the angel.
You could also use a little dot of hot glue (this would be an adult only job!)
9 – Last, use the markers to draw a sweet face on your angel.
Printable angel wing template
The wings print on an 8.5″x11″ sheet of paper.
I highly recommend printing the wings or tracing them onto cardstock. Regular paper will get limp after having things glued to it.
The sheet contains three angel wing templates perfect if you’re making the craft with multiple kids.
